The OneSignal Free plan is evolving. OneSignal has always allowed users to sign up and use the product for free. As we continue to innovate, we want to make sure these enhancements can be used by everyone.

We’re bringing more of OneSignal’s product capabilities to our free plan, including OneSignal AI, increased Journey’s and message steps, and more data tags. At the same time, we are also improving the Growth plan: customers will receive additional Journeys at no additional cost.

To sustainably offer these additional features we’re introducing a 1,000 monthly active user (MAU) limit for mobile push and in-app messaging on the Free plan. These changes take effect for new customers on September 1, 2026, and for existing customers on October 1, 2026.

What's getting better

We're removing several paid-plan gates and bringing deeper lifecycle messaging into the Free plan. That includes newly announced AI capabilities, access to 3 Journeys with unlimited step counts, and 6 Data Tabs. Growth plan customers now have access to 5 Journeys and unlimited step counts at no additional cost. All paid plans now have access to unlimited journey message steps.

With additional Journeys and Data Tags, teams of every size are enabled to create more personalized experiences for their customers.

A limit on Free plan MAU

Alongside these additions, we're introducing a 1,000 monthly active user (MAU) limit per organization for mobile push and in-app messaging on the Free plan.

For accounts above the limit, mobile push and in-app messages will pause until you upgrade. Other channels, including web push and email will keep working under the existing plan limits.

For organizations above the new limit, continuing to send mobile push and in-app messages will require an upgrade to a paid plan. We recognize that this is a meaningful change. Our goal is to make more of OneSignal’s capabilities available to teams at every stage, while aligning plans with the scale of platform use. As a result, the majority of Free plan customers will receive greater functionality at no additional cost.

For organizations with more than 1,000 MAU, a paid plan comes fully equipped with the delivery infrastructure, marketing features, and support that a growing business needs.

Key dates

  • September 1st: New organizations signing up for the Free plan are subject to the 1,000 MAU limit
  • October 1st: Existing customers on the Free plan must be under 1,000 MAU to continue sending mobile push and in-app messages.

If you're near or over the limit

You'll get notified as your organization crosses 75%, 90%, and 100% of the limit, and you can check your current MAU anytime from the Organizations page in your dashboard. If you go over, you'll have 24 hours to upgrade before sending pauses.
