Apple is updating the server certificates used by the Apple Push Notification service (APNs), with changes rolling out to production on February 24, 2025. These updates enhance security and ensure compliance with modern encryption standards.

What’s Changing?

  • Apple has already switched APNs sandbox servers to the new certificate as of January 20, 2025.
  • On February 24, 2025, APNs production servers will adopt the updated certificate.
  • The new certificate is issued by the USERTrust RSA Certification Authority under a SHA-2 root.

Do You Need to Take Action?

For most developers, no action is required. However, if your systems manually verify APNs certificates, you should update your trust store to ensure uninterrupted push notification delivery.
