Community Code of Conduct

Last updated July 18, 2022

The OneSignal Communities are intended to be a safe place for OneSignal customers, employees and members of the community to network with each other, ask for help, share their knowledge, and learn more about the OneSignal products and related platforms & products.

We want participating in these community spaces to be a fun, pleasant, and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion.

We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.  This policy document outlines our expectations.

Behavior

OneSignal Communities are often hosted in online spaces and platforms where a wide range of behaviors are considered appropriate.  For our spaces, we prefer folks to behave in a way that is professional, inoffensive, and cooperative.

Any conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional workplace setting would likewise be inappropriate in our online and in-person spaces.  This includes any behavior which is discriminatory, offensive, sexual, or violent in nature; or otherwise disrupts the work of our community spaces.  Advocating for, or encouraging, any harassing or inappropriate behavior is similarly disallowed.

Under this policy, the following behaviors are considered violations:

  • Discriminatory or offensive language or actions directed towards groups identified by their gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, race, or religion, or other personal characteristics.
  • Physical contact and simulated physical contact (e.g., textual descriptions like “backrub”) without consent or after a request to stop.
  • Violent language or threats of violence.  Sharing violent or personally objectifying material. Incitement of violence towards any individual, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm.
  • Social criticism regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment.
  • A pattern of inappropriate social contact, such as requesting/assuming unprofessional levels of intimacy with others. Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease.
  • Deliberate “outing” of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent.  Threatening to post or posting other people’s personally identifiable information without consent.  Deliberate misgendering or use of “dead names".
  • Blogging, tweeting, or otherwise communicating with intent to harm someone’s reputation, i.e., “making an example” of a member.
  • Publication of non-harassing private communication without consent. Harassing or unwanted photography or recording, including logging online activity for harassment purposes.
  • Trolling, insults, or personal attacks. Intimidation, stalking, or following. Sustained, uninvited disruption or interruption of events/communication.

Under this policy, the following behaviors are considered as non-violations:

  • Unintentional offense not consistent with a behavior of harassment or harmful pattern of behavior.
  • Reasonable communication of boundaries, such as “leave me alone,” “go away,” or “I’m not discussing this with you.”
  • Verbal communication in a tone you don’t find pleasant (try focusing on responding to the content or disengaging instead).
  • Discussing or criticizing behavior considered harassment under this policy.

Reporting

If you see a violation of our Code of Conduct, or are experiencing or witnessing harassment, please contact the admins of the community space directly. They'll respond as promptly as possible.

Reports can be submitted through OneSignal CoC Violation Report form, anonymously.  Reports of Code of Conduct violations should include as many details as possible, for example:

  • Contact info for the reporter
  • Names or descriptions of people involved
  • When and where it happened
  • What happened
  • Additional context such as screenshots, recording, or any hard evidence you can provide
  • If the problem is ongoing

We will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims of abuse, but may share information about repeat harassers with other community organizers as noted below.

Consequences

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant continues to violate the Code of Conduct, community moderators may take any action they deem appropriate to maintain a welcoming environment for participants, up to and including expulsion from an event and/or the community.

At our discretion, we may publicly name a person about whom we’ve received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them. We will not name harassment victims without their affirmative consent.

We expect participants to respect the Code of Conduct in all OneSignal communities and at all OneSignal-managed or OneSignal-related events.  This policy is not a replacement for law enforcement, and in serious cases the violations may warrant referral to a law enforcement agency by the reporter.
