1. The window before payday, and why it's not just a fintech idea
Most apps that think about payday at all default to messaging the happy moment, the day money lands, and default to fintech as the only category where it matters. Both defaults are worth questioning.
The more overlooked window is often the few days right before someone's next payday, when balances are lowest and they're most likely to consider an overdraft, a short-term loan, or a buy-now-pay-later offer they'll regret. A genuinely helpful nudge here (a spend-awareness check-in, a bill heads-up, a suggestion to skip a subscription renewal this cycle) builds more trust than anything sent on payday itself, precisely because most apps ignore this moment or use it to sell something instead of help.
