Measure What Sticks: New Retention Metrics and the Journeys API

The best messaging programs answer a hard question: did people come back? Over the past month we shipped releases that help you answer it directly, automate more of your workflow through code and AI, and protect the sender reputation you've worked hard to build.

Here's what's new in OneSignal in August:

Retention Metrics is live

Retention Metrics is live for every app. Open the new Retention tab under Dashboard → Retention, pick any cohort start date, and see how many of those users stayed active over the following 7, 14, or 30 days. You can compare cohorts by channel or platform and export the full curve to CSV.

There's nothing to instrument: retention runs on session data the OneSignal SDK already collects, so it works from day one with no event setup and no data team. Pair it with Conversion and Engagement Metrics and you can tell the whole story — from send, to click, to conversion, to users who keep coming back. Your plan sets how far back a cohort can start, from 7 days on Free up to 90 days on Enterprise.

Manage Journeys via API

The Journeys Public API is now in Beta. You can create, read, update, delete, and manage the state of Journeys programmatically (every node type available on the canvas, plus journey stats) without a single dashboard click. An opt-in concurrency guard keeps two editors, say the dashboard and your CI pipeline, from silently overwriting each other's changes. If you've wanted to template journeys, sync them across environments, or wire them into your own tooling, this is your foundation. It's available on all plans within your existing journey limits.

A new homescreen (and file uploads for OS AI)

Say hello to Home, the new default landing page rolling out to all customers. Instead of opening onto analytics, you land in a full-page AI chat where you can ask anything about your app, including how notifications are doing, how to set up a channel, or what to send next. Prefer the classic view? You can switch your landing page back to the Dashboard anytime in account preferences.

Plus, OneSignal AI now accepts attachments (images, PDFs, CSVs, and Excel) via the + button or drag and drop. The AI reads the file, keeps it in context for the rest of the conversation, and acts on it: attach a CSV to kick off a user import, drop an image onto an open push or in-app draft, or upload your marketing calendar spreadsheet and create sends in bulk. It's live for all customers with OneSignal AI enabled.

See OneSignal activity inside HubSpot

OneSignal events now write to the HubSpot contact timeline. Open a contact and see the push, email, SMS, and in-app messages they received — sends, deliveries, opens, clicks, and failures — right alongside HubSpot email. Those events also power HubSpot lists, reports, and workflows, so you can segment and automate on the full engagement picture. You choose exactly which events to send, and new customers can install OneSignal directly from the HubSpot marketplace. Existing integrations just need a one-time re-authentication to grant the new permissions.

Email Volume Spike Protection

Inbox providers treat a sudden surge in email volume the way they treat an unknown sender: with deferrals and spam placement that can linger for weeks. Email Volume Spike Protection now checks every dashboard send against your domain's peak daily volume from the past 30 days. Cross 1.4× your recent peak on a 3k+ send and OneSignal recommends Auto Warm-Up; cross 4× at 100k+ and you'll get a strong warning with deliverability guidance before anything goes out. It's live for everyone who sends email through OneSignal.

Connect OneSignal to Claude in one click

OneSignal is now listed in Claude's official connector directory. Connect your account with one-click OAuth, no API keys to copy, and run your messaging from a Claude conversation: send pushes, build segments, and query your data wherever you're already working.
