Apple App Privacy Compliance
Starting December 8, 2020, Apple is requiring new apps and app updates to disclose their privacy details. These changes are now being implemented after they were first announced at WWDC20 in June. Going forward, App Store product pages will now feature a new privacy information section to help users understand an app’s privacy practices. Users will be able to learn about the data types the app may collect and whether that data is linked to them or used to track them.
How does this affect you? Developers submitting a new app or an app update will be required to identify their data collection and usage. This also includes data collected by third-party partners and third-party SDKs whose code you integrate into your app, including OneSignal.
The OneSignal iOS SDK does not share any data with data brokers or for targeted advertising or advertising measurement purposes. We do collect some data for Analytics purposes to help you better understand your engagement and conversions.
If you’re submitting a new app or updating your app with the OneSignal iOS SDK, here’s what you need to do:
- Understand Apple’s privacy requirements.
- Identify all of the data you and your third-party partners collect.
- Confirm your iOS SDK version. Version 2.16.0 and later no longer collect the device advertising identifier (IDFA). We recommend upgrading, but this is not required. If you would like to upgrade, you can find instructions here (Cordova, Xamarin, and Unity updates will be released soon).
- Provide your privacy policy in App Store Connect.
- If you do not have a privacy policy in place, feel free to reference OneSignal’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Use for guidance.
- Respond to the app privacy questions in App Store Connect. Instructions from Apple can be found here.
Developers will be responsible for entering and maintaining accurate responses in App Store Connect. Make sure you refer to OneSignal’s documentation for Apple app privacy compliance to help ensure you’re accurately reporting your privacy details.
